Sushant committed suicide, wasn’t murdered: AIIMS panel informs CBI

Update: 2020-10-03 04:41 GMT

The AIIMS panel entrusted by the CBI with re-examining the viscera and post-mortem reports of actor Sushant Singh Rajput has said that the actor died by suicide and was not murdered.

According to NDTV, the AIIMS panel has given its medico-legal opinion to the CBI after completing its examination and the latter are corroborating the report with their findings so far.

The AIIMS panel has reportedly seconded the opinion of the Mumbai hospital that conducted the post-mortem of Sushant and found “asphyxia due to hanging” the cause of death.

Now that the AIIMS has ruled out any possibility of murder, either through poisoning or strangulation, as alleged by some of Sushant’s colleagues and fans or as speculated on social media posts, the CBI will now probe the angle of “abetment to suicide,” a charge originally listed by the Bihar police.

The Bollywood actor was found hanging from the ceiling of his Bandra apartment on June 14. Although Mumbai police, based on autopsy reports, filed a case of suicide, alternative theories of murder and pressure for a detailed CBI inquiry into the case led to the entry of the central investigating agency into the case.

The CBI has so far quizzed more than 20 people related to the case in a span of 57 days and has examined a laptop, hard drives, digital camera and two mobile phones that were seized.

The agency had also employed the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) with examining the crime scene for any evidence of foul play in the death of the actor.

“All aspects are being looked into including murder angle. So far, no evidence has come up to prove it to be a case of murder. If during the course of investigation, we get any evidence, murder charge will be added. For now, abetment to suicide and other charges in the FIR are being probed,” a CBI source told NDTV.

Incidentally, Vikas Singh, the family lawyer of Sushant claimed last week that a doctor on the AIIMS panel told him that the actor was strangulated.

“Getting frustrated by the delay in CBI taking a decision to convert abetment to suicide to murder of SSR. The doctor who is part of AIIMS had told me long back that the photos sent by me indicated 200 per cent that it’s death by strangulation and not suicide,” he had tweeted.
