An uncle of cricketer Suresh Raina has been killed in Punjab’s Pathankot district allegedly in an attack by robbers.

The deceased has been identified as Ashok Kumar, a 58-year-old government contractor. Besides, four members of his family have sustained injuries in the attack. Kumar’s elder brother Shyam Lal confirmed that the deceased was the cricketer’s uncle, according to PTI.

Raina had already pulled out of the Indian Premier League citing “personal reasons” and is headed back to India from the UAE where the league is set to begin from September 19.

Shyam Lal said Raina is expected to visit the village.

According to police, the attack took place at Thariyal village in Pathankot on the intervening night of August 19 and 20.

They said three to four members of the notorious “Kale Kachhewala” gang, who had come with an intention to loot, attacked Kumar and his family members at their house in Thariyal village near Madhopur of Pathankot.

At the time of the attack, they were sleeping at the terrace of their house. Ashok Kumar, who had suffered head injuries, died while the rest sustained injuries, said police.
