Sourav Ganguly suffers heart attack, undergoes angioplasty

BCCI President and former Indian cricket skipper Sourav Ganguly suffered a mild heart attack and has undergone an angioplasty in Woodlands Hospital, Kolkata.

Doctors say his condition is stable and one stent has been inserted. He will be in hospital for the next four to five days. Furture course of action shall be decided later, doctors said.

According to reports, Ganguly was at the gym when he felt “suddenly ill”. He was thereafter rushed to hospital and  admitted in the ICU.

Sports writer Boria Majumdar said in a tweet: “He felt dizzy when he was in the gym and he went to Woodlands to get the Tests done. That’s when it came to light that there was a cardiac issue and the hospital has now created a three-member board with Dr Saroj Mondal who will perform the procedure. @SGanguly99 get well soon.”

Jay Shah, secretary of BCCI, tweeted that Sourav Ganguly is stable and “responding well to treatment.”

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee wished Ganguly a speedy recovery on Twitter and wrote he suffered “a mild cardiac arrest.”

Banerjee tweeted: “Sad to hear that @SGanguly99 suffered a mild cardiac arrest and has been admitted to hospital. Wishing him a speedy and full recovery. My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family!”

Ganguly had recently visited West Bengal governor Jagdeep Dhankhar but had said it was a “courtesy call.”
