A soldier of the 162 Battalion has gone missing since Sunday (August 02) evening in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir, NDTV reported. Officials suspect that the rifleman, who had gone to the valley for Eid celebration, might have been kidnapped by militants.

A vehicle registered in the name of Muzzaffar Manzoor, a resident of Shopian district, was set ablaze by unknown persons at Rambhama area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district late Sunday night, the officials said.

They said Manzoor serves in the Territorial Army and is a resident of neighbouring Shopian district. He could not be contacted, said officials, who suspect that he might have been kidnapped by militants. Efforts are on to trace him.

On July 22, militants shot dead a policeman in the Qazigund area of Kulgam district. Abdul Rashid Dar was shot at by the ultras at around 9.30 pm, officials said. Dar was rushed to a hospital for treatment but succumbed on the way.
