Like a bolt from the blue, especially for seasoned politicians and age-old parties of Bihar, the UK-returned daughter of a former Janata Dal (United) MLC has declared herself the chief ministerial candidate for the upcoming state Assembly elections after floating a political party.

Pushpam Priya Chaudhary, daughter of Vinod Chaudhary, who did her postgraduation in public administration from London, announced her candidacy in a full-page advertisement published in English and Hindi dailies of Bihar on Sunday (March 8).

The advert introduced her as the president of the party named Plurals, and the chief ministerial candidate of Bihar with slogans like “Plurals has arrived” and “Bihar deserves better, and better is possible.”

Life-size hoardings of the advert have also been put up in Patna city.

Her announcement has reportedly come as a surprise even for her father, a resident of Darbhanga, who nonetheless has been supportive of her decision despite his close ties with Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

“Everyone has the freedom to dream. My daughter is a highly educated person. She has all my blessings,” Indian Express quoted Vinod as saying.

While speaking to ANI, Vinod has, however, clarified that JD(U) will not support her party as she is challenging the top leader of the party.

“She is an adult and educated, this is her decision. Party will of course not support it if she is challenging top leader of the party,” he said.

Pushpam, through tweet claims that her party has a clear roadmap for Bihar for next consecutive elections in 2025 and 2030.

“As Lasswell said, politics is who gets what, when and how. Following this, Bihar needs a blueprint and Plurals has a concrete roadmap for 2025 and 2030. Stay tuned for updates,” Pushpam tweeted on Sunday.

In another tweet, she through her introductory poster, called people to reject “bullshit politics” and join her party if they “love Bihar”.

“Bihar needs pace, Bihar needs wings, Bihar needs change. Because Bihar deserves better and better is possible. Reject bullshit politics, join Plurals to make Bihar run and fly in 2020,” the tweet read.
