Congress MP Karti Chidambaram on Monday said he has tested positive for COVID-19, and that he is under home quarantine.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday (August 26) extended the protection granted from arrest to Congress leader P Chidambaram in the case filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) by a day, in the INX Media case. This would mean that the former Union minister cannot be arrested until Tuesday (August 27).

Earlier, making his submissions in the Supreme Court, Kapil Sibal asserted that his client was being humiliated. “Humiliation and disgrace is attached to arrest. The moment you arrest someone world believe you are guilty, that is the public opinion,” he said.

Kapil Sibal reading out the ED’s affidavit in the apex court, questioned, “They said they are yet to unearth the money laundering scheme, so if they are yet to unearth, how is it cogent evidence?”

Finding fault with the judgment of the Delhi high court, Sibal said,“Paragraphs in HC judgment were verbatim copy of CBI/ED note, comma by comma, full stop by full stop, word by word, sentence by sentence, the chart. Their note becomes findings of the court. Where is the application of mind by the judge?”

In reply, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta sought to know the source of the note and added that the said note was part of the record.
