SC allows NEET on Oct 14 for those who couldn’t appear due to COVID-19

The Supreme Court has allowed NEET exam to be conducted on October 14 for students who could not appear for it due to COVID-19 infection or because of residing in containment zones. The results will be announced on October 16, ANI reported.

NEET 2020 was conducted on September 13, 2020 for admissions to 80,005 MBBS in 542 medical colleges, 26,949 BDS in 313 colleges, 52,720 AYUSH in 914 colleges plus BVSc & AH seats in various colleges across India. As many as1205 AIIMS MBBS and 200 JIPMER MBBS seats were also added to the NEET 2020 seat matrix.

Around 13 lakh candidates appeared for NEET exam held in pen and paper mode on September 13.

The official notice regarding NEET 2020 Phase 2 would be released soon on the official site. Earlier, the result was expected to be released on October 12, 2020. However, the result announcement was not made by NTA, but as per various media reports, the result was likely to be released on October 13. The final answer keys would also be released by the Agency along with the result.

Along with the declaration of the result, NTA would also be releasing the merit list for the 15% All India Quota. The state-wise merit list would be shared by the agency with respective bodies done State level counselling.

Candidates who qualify the medical entrance examination and meet the NEET cut-off percentile will be eligible to participate in the counselling round. The counselling process would be conducted by the Directorate General of Health Sciences on behalf of the Medical Counselling Committee for admission to MBBS and BDS programmes. Candidates will have to register on the MCC website for the counselling session.

This year around 15.97 lakh students have registered for the NEET 2020 exam. The examination was conducted by maintaining all SOPs issued by the Health Ministry regarding the conduct of the exam.

On September 9, the Supreme Court had refused to entertain a batch of pleas seeking deferment or cancellation of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) scheduled for September 13.

A bench headed by Justice Ashok Bhushan said that authorities will take all necessary steps for conducting the NEET-undergraduate exam amid the COVID-19 pandemic for admission in medical courses.

The apex court had on September 4 dismissed petitions, including the one filed by ministers of six opposition-ruled states, seeking review of its August 17 order which had paved the way for holding NEET and JEE exams.

The bench, also comprising Justices R S Reddy and M R Shah, said that all arrangements have been made by the authorities to hold the exam.
