Actor Rhea Chakraborty, accused of abetting actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s suicide, has sought police protection citing threat to her life and that of her family while sharing a video showing her father being mobbed by mediapersons outside her building complex.

Taking to Instagram, Rhea, 28, said she and her father Indrajit Chakraborty have been trying to get out of the house to cooperate with various agencies probing Rajput’s death.

“There is a threat to my life and my family’s life. We have informed the local police station and even gone there, no help provided. We have informed the investigation authorities to help us get to them, no help arrived. How is this family going to live?” she said on Thursday (August 27).

Using the hashtag #SafetyForMyFamily, Rhea said basic law and order restrictions should be provided especially amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Thereafter, a police constable reportedly escorted the actor’s father to the Santa Cruz Police Station from their residence, according to news agency ANI.

The controversy surrounding Rhea’s ‘sorry babu’ remark

In an exclusive to India Today, Rhea on Thursday clarified why she said “sorry babu” when she saw the late actor’s mortal remains.

“What else is someone supposed to say after someone has lost their life?” she asked.

She said she was sorry that Rajput has lost his life and his death has been made into a joke. “I’m sorry that your last memory is not of your good work, intelligence, or your charity. That is also misconstrued. What else would you say?” she was quoted as saying.

Earlier on Thursday morning, Rhea’s brother Showik Chakraborty arrived at the DRDO guest house here for questioning by the Central Bureau of Investigation. This is the first time that a member of Rhea’s family is being questioned by the investigating agency.

Rajput’s flat-mate Siddharth Pithani was also called by the CBI for the seventh consecutive day for questioning in the actor’s death case.

The Supreme Court last week upheld the transfer of an FIR, lodged by Rajput’s father in Patna against Rhea, the late actor’s girlfriend, and others for allegedly abetting his suicide and misappropriating his money, to the CBI.
