SPB still on ventilator support, clarifies singer's son SP Charan

Debunking rumours on playback singer S P Balasubrahmanyam being taken off ventilator support, his son SP Charan said in a video message on Tuesday (August 18) that they were not true.

Taking to Instagram, Charan said, “The status is the same as it was yesterday. There are rumours going around that dad is off the ventilator. That is not true. We do wish that day comes real soon. He is being examined by the medical team at MGM health centre.”

Saying SPB is being taken care of “really well” at the hospital, Charan added, “Keep the prayers coming. We thank you as a family for all your love and concern.”

Numerous filmmakers, actors, and prominent people in the film and other industries wished for SPB’s speedy recovery.

Among his well-wishers was noted filmmaker Bharathiraaja, who put out a video message seeking quick recovery of the singer.

“On the first day of beginning the shoot for 16 Vayathinile, we did a puja. A couple of days before that, I had asked you to sing a song on the day of the puja. You too accepted. But when the day arrived, you got a throat infection and said you would not be able to sing.

“So, we asked Malaysia Vasudevan to sing and recorded the song ‘Sevvanthi poomudicha chinnakka’. Then in Nizhalgal, you sung ‘Ithu oru ponmalai pozhuthu’. The song became so popular and is still being sung by many,” he reminisced.

“Balu, you will return to us,” he added.

Noted Tamil lyricist Vairamuthu too sent out a video message, wishing the singer a speedy recovery. “You had sung my debut song. You should also sing my last one,” Vairamuthu said.

“In my 40-year career, I had seen a lot of musicians, directors and actors. But you are the one who remained always. You made people happy and I hope you don’t make them sad. Recover soon and rule the music world,” he said.

Earlier, actor Rajinikanth, in a Twitter video, said he was happy that the singer had crossed the danger zone. Rajinikanth added that he prayed to God for Balasubrahmanyam’s speedy recovery.

“Balasubrahmanyam has been singing in different languages for over 50 years, bringing joy to crores of people,” Rajinikanth said in the video message.

Actor Kamal Haasan too took to Twitter to wish a speedy recovery for the ailing musician, saying “we are waiting for you”. “Dear elder brother. We are waiting for you. For long, you have been my voice and I have been your face,” he said in the tweet.
