With ₹10 crore annual pay, Shastri is highest paid cricket coach
After his reappointment as India’s head coach, Ravi Shastri is expected to get a 20% hike on his remuneration. As per a report by Mumbai Mirror, his annual package will be between ₹9.5 crore and ₹10 crore. With this Shastri will be the highest paid cricket coach in the world.
Australian coach Darren Lehmann is a distant second earning an annual package ₹3.9 crores, followed by Trevor Bayliss (England) with ₹3.7 crores, Micky Arthur (Pakistan) with ₹1.58 crores and Mike Hesson (New Zealand) earning ₹1.8 crores.
In his previous contract, he was drawing about ₹8 crore. His support staff will also be given hikes. Bharat Arun, who was retained as the bowling coach, is expected to get about ₹3.5 crore, fielding coach R Sridhar will be drawing the same salary. Vikram Rathour, who replaced Sanjay Bangar as batting coach, will be starting from somewhere between ₹2.5 crore to ₹3 crore. All these new contracts would be into effect from September 1.
Earlier, following his appointment as head coach, Shastri said, “The reason why I came in here is the belief I had in this team, the belief that they could leave a legacy which very few teams have left behind which other teams going down will try and emulate.”
