Kangana requests SC to hear her side if BMC moves it over office demolition

Actor Kangana Ranaut filed a petition in the Supreme Court on Wednesday (December 2) over the demolition of her Mumbai office by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

Her petition said that if the BMC challenges the relief granted to her by the Bombay High Court in the apex court, then “no decision should be taken” without her side being taken into consideration.

The Bombay High Court had cancelled the BMC notice on the demolition of Ranaut’s office, stating that it is “nothing but malice in law”. The High Court also said Ranaut will recieve compensation for the damages. The BMC is considering moving the Supreme Court against the High Court’s order.

BMC had demolished a part of Ranaut’s office located at Pali Hill on September 9 saying that it was an “illegal construction”, amid a war of words between her and the ruling Shiv Sena government, in the wake of the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput in June.

Ranaut alleged that the demolition was an act of revenge for her comments against the government.

The High Court had stayed the demolition as it had happened “when she is out of state, directing her to respond within 24 hours, and not granting her any further time, despite written request…”.

The High Court had also asked Ranaut to exercise restraint in her tweets against the government.

Meanwhile, Ranaut was sent a legal notice on Wednesday (December 2) by an advocate in Zirakpur, Punjab asking her to apologise within a week for a tweet in which she had falsely identified an old woman at a farmers’ protest as ‘Bilkis Dadi’ of the Shaheen Bagh protest.

The photo that the actor posted is actually that of 73-year-old Mohinder Kaur from Bahadurgarh Jandian village in Bathinda. Ranaut tweeted that she was also part of the Shaheen Bagh anti-CAA protests, and that she could be paid ₹100 to be available for protests. Ranaut later deleted the tweet after it was declared “fake news”.
