Rajput case: NCB nabs 'big' Bollywood supplier after huge drugs seizure

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Wednesday (December 9) claimed that it has made the ‘biggest seizure’ of drugs in a case related to actor Sushant Singh Rajput death, and said that it has arrested one of the biggest suppliers of narcotics to Bollywood celebrities.

The NCB said the drugs, worth ₹ 2.5 crore, were seized in a series of raids in Mumbai. It said it has also arrested Azam Sheikh Jumman, among the “biggest” suppliers of drugs in Mumbai with a long list of people from Bollywood as clients. NCB officials said he sourced  narcotics from Himachal Pradesh and then supplied them to bigger dealers. They said he could be “one of the last links” in the drugs case.

Another accused, identified as Regel Mahakal, was arrested late Tuesday night after raids in some areas of Mumbai, including Lokhandwala, by an NCB team led by the probe agency’s zonal director Sameer Wankhede.

Contraband was identified as ‘Malana cream’, said to be widely available in Kullu valley of Himachal Pradesh. An NCB official said more raids were continuing.

One more person was also arrested during the raids, the official said without divulging further details.

Mahakal’s name had cropped up during questioning of some drugs peddlers in the case. He allegedly used to supply drugs to Anuj Keshwani, also an accused in the case who was arrested in September this year, who was supplying it to others, the NCB official said.

Rajput, 34, was found hanging at his home in Bandra area here in June this year.

The NCB has been probing the alleged use of drugs in some sections of Bollywood after the death of Rajput on the basis of some WhatsApp chats involving drugs.

The Central agency had earlier arrested Rajput’s girlfriend, Rhea Chakraborty, her brother Showik, some staff members of Rajput and a few others under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Rhea Chakraborty, her brother, and some other accused were later granted bail.
