Rajinikanth cancels politics entry citing health reasons

Superstar Rajinikanth, who was scheduled to formally announce his new political party on December 31, has now said he won't be entering politics due to health reasons. However, he said he will continue to work for people.

Superstar Rajinikanth, who was set to formally float his political party on December 31, on Tuesday (December 29) said he won’t be entering politics due to health reasons.

The actor, however, assured fans that he will continue to work for the people.The actor, who had set up the Rajini Makkal Mandram two years ago, applied brakes on his political ambitions just a couple of days after being discharged from the hospital. He was hospitalised on Friday after reporting fluctuations in his blood pressure.

Stating that he doesn’t want to bring “mental and economic” problems for those who had braced up to accompany in his political journey, the actor said it is in the best interest of all that he cancels his political plunge given his critical health condition.

“Therefore, I inform with great regret I am unable to come to politics by floating a political party. Only I know the pain behind making this announcement,” the 70-year-old actor said in a statement, months after he said that he will float his own political outfit and face the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly polls, due in four-five months.

Earlier this month, Rajinikanth had announced he will launch his political party in January, regarding which he will make an announcement on December 31. The announcement had come after the actor met senior office-bearers of his forum, Rajini Makkal Mandram.

The run-up to Rajini’s announcement of a party was filled with speculations especially since the actor had in recent times amplified the BJP’s thinking on major national issues such as the revocation of Article 370 and the citizenship law.

Besides, the actor has not been hesitant about expressing his admiration for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The BJP has also been throwing its weight behind him whenever he came under attack from Dravidian and Tamil nationalist groups.
