Rains predicted in Nashik, Pune, Kerala; Godavari floods recede
The flood in river Godavari is gradually receding but it may take three more days for normalcy to return in hundreds of marooned villages in East and West Godavari districts of Andhra Pradesh, officials said on Monday.
Officials informed Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy that over 500 tmc ft of floodwater had to be let out into the Bay of Bengal in just about six days.
According to the State Disaster Management Authority, 18 mandals (202 villages) in East Godavari and 22 (218 villages) in West Godavari were affected by the flood. Transport network in 64 villages has been cut off while eight villages remained submerged in East Godavari. In West, 43 villages were cut off and eight villages were marooned, the authority said.
The East Godavari district administration opened 85 relief camps for 18,809 flood-hit people, while in the West, two camps were operated for 133 people. The CM asked the health department to take all steps to prevent outbreak of communicable diseases while the animal husbandry department has been asked to open veterinary camps in the villages.

2 IAF choppers rescue 13 people
Two Indian Air Force helicopters on Monday (August 5) rescued thirteen villagers stranded in Mangarol taluka of Surat district, as heavy rains lashed the southern part of the state over the past few days, officials said.
Over 21,000 people were shifted to safer places in south Gujarat region over the last few days. On Sunday, two IAF choppers had rescued 45 people stranded in a prawns farm in a village in Valsad.
Several low-lying villages have been flooded and National Disaster Response Force and Air Force teams are in the region for rescue and relief operations. “As many as 373 people were rescued,” a state government release said.
Very heavy rains predicted for Nashik, Kolhapur, Satara, Pune: IMD
The IMD bulletin on Monday informed that Nashik, Kolhapur, and Satara districts could receive heavy to very heavy rains on Tuesday, followed by extremely heavy rainfall in isolated places on Wednesday and Thursday.
School and colleges in Pune will remain closed on Tuesday as heavy rainfall was forcing the release of water from dams into rivers in the district, a senior official said.

Pune Mayor Mukta Tilak said that over 600 families had been shifted from low-lying areas since Sunday to various schools. She said some patients, including 15 on ventilator support, were evacuated after water entered Jupiter Hospital in Wakad area here.
Heavy to very heavy rains in Goa over next 3 days: IMD
The IMD on Monday predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in Goa over the next three days and issued an orange alert.
Met dept issues red alert in three districts in Kerala
As heavy rains pounded several parts of Kerala, the IMD on Monday issued a Red Alert in Idukki, Malappuram and Kozhikode districts on August 8.
A woman died in Malappuram District when a tree uprooted and fell over her house, the District Management Authority said. Many places in Malappuram District are under water with some villages being isolated. Heavy crop damage was also reported from various parts of the district.
Palakkad District also received heavy rains. The IMD also declared an Orange alert in various districts from August 6 to 9, including Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kasargod, Alapuzha, Idukki, Ernakkulam, Kannur, and Thrissur districts.
Heavy rain likely to lash Odisha in next few days: Met centre
The formation of a low-pressure area over Bay of Bengal on Monday is likely to trigger heavy rainfall in parts of Odisha over the next few days, the meteorological centre here said.
Heavy rainfall is likely to lash parts of Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Angul, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Jajpur, Kandhamal, Ganjam, and Gajapati districts on Tuesday (August 6) morning.

One or two places at Nabarangpur, Kandhamal, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, and Kalahandi districts are expected to experience extremely heavy rainfall till August 8. As sea conditions are likely to be rough and very rough, the centre advised fishermen to refrain from venturing into the sea on August 8 and 9.
Rain in parts of Rajasthan, more expected on Tuesday
Due to heavy rainfall in Vadodara division of Western Railways, rail traffic was affected at various stations. NWR spokesperson said that the Bandra-Jaipur Express, Jaipur-Bandra Express, and Dadar-Ajmer Express had been cancelled. Met department has predicted light to moderate rainfall in east and west Rajasthan in next 24 hours.
Orange warning for extremely heavy rain in Himachal
The Met department issued an orange warning for extremely heavy rain for Tuesday since heavy rainfall occurred at isolated places in the districts of Shimla and Kangra.
