Priyanka raps Cong workers in Rae Bareli, vows to go after party betrayers
Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi on Wednesday (June 12) rapped party workers in Rae Bareli for not doing enough to ensure the win of the party in the Lok Sabha elections. Gandhi had accompanied her mother and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi to the latter’s constituency in a thanksgiving visit after the elections.
“I did not want to deliver any speech here but since I have been asked to speak, let me speak the truth. The truth is that this election was won with the help of Sonia Gandhi and the people of Rae Bareli,” ANI quoted Gandhi as saying.
“I will find out the names of the workers who did not work for the party in the elections,” she added.
The mother-daughter duo also held a meeting with party leaders in Rae Bareli.
Sonia Gandhi in her speech attacked the BJP, blaming the party for resorting to immoral tactics to win the polls.
“All type of tactics were adopted to woo the voters. Everyone in this country knows whether it was moral or immoral, what happened in the elections. I feel this is the greatest misfortune that limits of dignity are crossed to retain the power,” she was quoted by ANI as saying.
Congress had a humiliating defeat in the state in the Lok Sabha polls, with only Sonia Gandhi winning the Rae Bareli seat. Even Congress president Rahul Gandhi lost in his home turf of Amethi to BJP’s Smriti Irani by a margin of more than 55,000 votes.
It will be a challenge for the Congress to identify loopholes and re-strengthen the party before Uttar Pradesh goes to faces Assembly elections in 2022.
