Privacy our priority, haven’t shared data with any foreign govt: TikTok

A day after it was banned along with 58 other apps, Tik Tok India on Monday (June 30) said it is complying with government orders and has not shared any users’ data with any foreign government, including the Chinese government.

The app has been withdrawn from Google’s Play Store and Apple’s App Store in compliance with government orders.

The company in a statement said it has been asked to meet concerned government stakeholders to submit its clarification on the matter.

“We have been invited to meet with concerned government stakeholders for an opportunity to respond and submit clarifications. TikTok continues to comply with all data privacy and security requirements under Indian law and has not shared any information of our users’ in India with any foreign government, including the Chinese government,” Nikhil Gandhi, head of TikTok India said.

The company said it placed highest importance on user privacy and integrity.

“TikTok has democratised the internet by making it available in 14 Indian languages, with hundreds of million of users, artists, story-tellers, educators and performers depending on it for their livelihood, many of whom are firt time internet users,” the statement said.

The Centre on Monday (June 29) banned 59 Chinese apps including TikTok, UC Browser and ShareIt amid a tense border standoff with China.
