Two weeks after former President Pranab Mukherjee tested positive for COVID-19, he continued to remain in a deep coma, but his vital parameters were stable, the hospital said on Saturday (August 22).

According to doctors who are attending to 84-year-old Mukherjee, he is being treated for respiratory infection and continues to be on ventilatory support. “The condition of Shri Pranab Mukherjee remains unchanged this morning. He is deeply comatose and is being treated for respiratory infection,” they said.

Mukherjee was admitted to the Army’s Research and Referral Hospital in Delhi Cantonment on August 10 and was operated for removal of a clot in the brain the same day. He developed a lung infection later and is being treated at the hospital.

As per the latest update from Pranab Mukherjee’s son Abhijit Mukherjee, the former President was stable, and his vital parameters continued to remain under control and manageable. “Positive signs of his improvement is noticed,” Abhijit had tweeted on August 19 and asked people to pray for his speedy recovery.
