The Centre is planning a mega ad and publicity blitzkrieg to make people ‘aware of its development and welfare programmes.’ The decision comes a day after the BJP got a massive drubbing in the Delhi Assembly polls, on Wednesday (February 12).
The outlay for the campaign has not been made public. The government hopes to use the campaign to keep the general public look away from the sluggish economy and weak growth.
NDTV reported that Union Minister for Information Prakash Javadekar had written to all ministries to expedite the ‘Har Kaam, Desh Ke Naam’ campaign. Javadekar has reportedly asked all senior officers to provide details of their initiatives so that it may be put out in digital, print, and television formats.
The campaign would focus on the steps taken by the government ‘to improve people’s lives.’
The Centre’s campaign is being seen as the BJP’s bid to reach out to the people after its campaign apparently failed in New Delhi. The party could only slightly improve its seats to eight from 3 in 2015.
Party insiders had the view that the leaders should have redirected its campaign by focusing on more hyper-local issues rather than pitching national topics.
The party’s massive chest-thumping, excessive hate-mongering, and hyper-nationalism had also not worked in New Delhi where the main opponent, AAP, solely focused on their Bijli-Paani agenda.
