The Election Commission (EC) on Friday (January 24) asked BJP leader Kapil Mishra to delete his controversial tweet in which he described the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections as a contest between India and Pakistan.
According to reports, the district election office under the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer sent a notice to Mishra for violating the Model Code of Conduct and asked him to explain his tweet.
Mishra, in his tweet had accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress of building “mini Pakistans” in India.
“It’s going to be India vs Pakistan on February 8 in Delhi. ‘Mini Pakistans’ have been created at many places in Delhi. Shaheen Bagh is being replicated at various places. Jab-jab Pakistan khada karne ki koshish hui hai, tab-tab Hindustan khada hua hai (Every time there has been an attempt to create a Pakistan here, India has risen stood up in protest),” Mishra tweeted on Thursday (January 23).
Mishra, however, has remained unapologetic of his comments.
In a tweet on Friday, he said he was not afraid of speaking the truth and will stand by it.
