Reports on extending 21-day lockdown false, baseless: Government
The government on Monday (March 30) said there was no plan to extend the 21-day lockdown which came intro force on Tuesday midnight. The press Information Bureau, quoting Cabinet Secretary (CS) Rajiv Gauba, said such reports were false and baseless.
The PIB said the CS had denied media reports stating that the government would extend the lockdown.
“There are rumours & media reports, claiming that the Government will extend the #Lockdown21 when it expires. The Cabinet Secretary has denied these reports, and stated that they are baseless,” it said.
According to ANI, Gauba said, “I’m surprised to see such reports, there is no such plan of extending.”
The 21-day lockdown is aimed at checking the spread of the coronavirus. Following the lockdown, there has been a massive exodus of migrant workers from big cities to their villages after being rendered jobless.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi ordered total lockdown across the country to break the chain of transmission of the deadly coronavirus that has claimed 27 lives in India.
