No place for cruelty in Maharashtra, says minister Dhananjay Munde

Condemning the murder of the teacher who was set aflame by her stalker in Maharashtra, NCP leader and state social minister Dhananjay Munde said, the government is determined to bring justice to the victim.

In a tweet, Munde said there is no place for cruelty in progressive Maharashtra.

हिंगणघाट जळतकांडातील पीडितेची मृत्यूशी झुंज अपयशी ठरली हे अत्यंत दुर्दैवी आहे.क्रूरतेला महाराष्ट्रात थारा नाही हे लक्षात ठेवावे. पीडितेला लवकरात लवकर न्याय मिळावा यासाठी सरकार कटिबद्ध आहे. या पुरोगामी महाराष्ट्रात समाज म्हणून आपण कुठे चाललो आहोत याचा गांभीर्याने विचार करायला हवा.

Resonating with Munde, MP Supriya Sule also took to Twitter to express condolence to the family of the victim and requested the government to conduct a speedy trial into the matter.

Describing the incident as barbaric, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray assured strict action against the suspects.

The 25-year-old woman lecturer, who was set on fire last week by a stalker in Wardha district, Maharashtra, died at a hospital in Nagpur on Monday (February 10) morning.

Confirming the death, Hinganghat’s police inspector Satyaveer Bandiwar said, “Doctors at the hospital declared her dead at 6.55 am today.”

Heavy security was deployed in Hinganghat to avoid any law and order problem following her death, he said.

The incident took place on February 3 at around 7:30 am, when she was set afire allegedly by one Vikesh Nagrale (27) while the woman was heading to her college. The man threw petrol on the woman and set her on fire.

The victim was taken to the hospital by the locals present at the site and later, shifted her to another hospital. Ankita Pisudde, a resident of Hinganghat town in Wardha, was critical after sustaining 40 per cent burns.

She was undergoing treatment at the Orange City Hospital & Research Centre in Nagpur, located around 840 km from here.
