No cut in pension for government employees, clarifies finance ministry

The Nirmala Sitharaman-led Ministry of Finance on April 19, 2020 stated that there will be no cut in pensions for Central Government employees. The Finance Ministry clarified its stance after certain reports stated that the government is planning to cut pensions.

The Finance Ministry shared in a tweet that certain reports stating a 20 percent cut in Central government pension is false news. There will be no cut in pension disbursements. The Ministry further clarified that salaries and pensions will not be affected by the government cash management instructions. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman shared the tweet.

According to the pensioners portal of the government of India, the minimum pension presently is Rs 9000 per month. Presently, there are 65.26 lakh government pensioners. The maximum limit on pension is 50 percent of the highest pay in the Government of India, presently Rs. 1,25,000 per month. Pension is payable till and including, the date of death.
