Since Nadda is the only one who is expected to be in the fray, there wouldn’t be any poll to elect the leader.

BJP’s working president JP Nadda is all set to formally take over as the party boss from Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday (January 20). His name is likely to be proposed by Union Ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh and Nitin Gadkari. Other members of the party National Council will second the proposal.

In the aftermath of Nadda’s un-opposed election, a grand function is scheduled to take place in the party headquarters where all the office-bearers of the outfit are expected to be present. Prime Minister Modi and Shah are set to address them on the occasion.

As per the schedule put out by the BJP, 10 am to 12:30 pm would be the time to file nominations. Scrutiny of papers will take place between 12:30 and 1:30 pm and withdrawal of nominations can be done between 1:30 and 2:30 pm.

Since Nadda is the only one who is expected to be in the fray, there wouldn’t be any poll to elect the leader.

Nadda hails from Himachal Pradesh and is from the RSS stable. He did serve as a member of the Himachal Pradesh assembly from 1993 to 2012. He has also served as a minister in the state cabinet. In 2010, he moved to the national capital and in 2012 became a member of the Rajya Sabha where he assisted his party in cornering the then UPA dispensation on a variety of issues, most notably corruption.

In 2014, he became the Union Health Minister in the Modi cabinet and in June 2019 was appointed the working president of the party.

Apart from carrying forward the legacy of Modi and Shah, Nadda has his task cut out as he has a huge challenge in the form of Delhi assembly polls scheduled for February 8. In 2020, he will have to deliver Bihar and West Bengal.
