Plunging the Kamal Nath government into a crisis, one of the four missing MLAs, Hardeep Dang, sent his resignation to Assembly Speaker NP Prajapati. Alleging that the state government is corrupt, dang, in his letter, had stated, that he is being ignored in the party despite having been elected for a second time.

Raghuraj Kansana, Bisahulal Singh and Independent member Shera Bhaiya are the other missing legislators. It is being rumoured that they have been whisked away to Bengaluru.

Reacting to the development, Chief Minister Kamal Nath said that it would be inappropriate for him to comment ahead of talking to him. “I have received information about Hardeep Singh Dang’s resignation. I have not yet received any letter from him or discussed the matter in person. Until I meet him personally, making comments over it will not be appropriate,”

Accusing the BJP of attempting to win over 14 MLAs to destabilise the Congress government, Randeep Singh Surjewala said: “The Congress government stopped mafias – land mafia, chit fund mafia, extortion mafia… This had been going on for 15 years”. The BJP “conspiracy” to destabilise the government was because “they thought they will be behind bars.”

Rejecting the charges, BJP leader Narottam Mishra said, “They should think why people are so angry that they don’t want to stay with them.”

Congress had earlier alleged that 10 MLAs, supporting the government, were forcibly moved to a five-star hotel from where it managed to rescue 6 of them.

Senior Congress leader, on Wednesday, Digvijay Singh charged the BJP with attempting to bribe MLAs by offering “₹25 -35 crore.”

In an assembly of 230, the ruling Congress enjoys the support of 120 MLAs – 114 from the Congress, 4 independents, 2 from the BSP, one from the Samajwadi Party (SP). The opposition BJP has 107 MLAs. Two seats are vacant.

If the other three missing legislators follow the footsteps of Hardeep Dang, the effective strength of the House will be reduced to 224 and the halfway mark to 113.
