Thousands of members from farmers’ outfits held a march to the Raj Bhavan in Patna on Tuesday, demanding scrapping of the three farm laws that have triggered farmers’ protests across the country.

The rally, which began from the city’s Gandhi Maidan, was stopped by police barricades at Dak Bungalow Chowk and a clash ensued between the two sides, according to NDTV.

Members of Akhil Bharatiya Kisan Sangharsh Samanvay Samiti and other Left organisations were leading the protest march to the Governor’s House.

The rally is being seen as a show of strength in opposition to the new laws, against which thousands of farmers have been protesting at Delhi’s border for one a month. They are camping on the highways, braving the bitter cold, to the protest the laws that they believe will only benefit the corporates and end the minimum support price (MSP) safety net.

Several rounds of talks have been held between the Centre and the farmer leaders in Delhi, but the government has been firm that the reforms will increase the farmers’ income. The Centre has invited the farmers’ unions for a fresh round of talks on December 30.
