While health workers across the nation are being lauded for their relentless work amid the COVID-19 crisis, a mob in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore attacked the healthcare staff on duty on  Wednesday (April 1).

The healthcare team which consisted of five persons including three doctors were pelted with stones in Indore’s Tat Patti Bakhal area. This locality is one of the Covid-19 hotspots of the city where 54 families are in isolation.

Indore Deputy Inspector General of Police Hari Narayan Chari Mishra said one was hurt in the stone-pelting incident, reports IANS.

The one-minute long video making rounds on social media shows a group of locals shouting abuses, pelting stones and chasing the healthcare staff during screening procedures.

This comes two days after residents in Ranipura area allegedly spat at officials and abused the healthcare workers on duty.

Earlier, Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan urged people not to demoralise the healthcare workers. “Fighting this battle against coronavirus is our national responsibility and the doctors, nurses and paramedics are our warriors but some people are creating an atmosphere of discrimination and fear psychosis against them”, he wrote on twitter.

“Please don’t break the morale of our Coronawarriors. Don’t forget that this fight is a ritual,” he added.
