Outspoken actor Kangana Ranaut, caught in a controversy over her remark comparing Mumbai to Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK), is learnt to have been granted Y category security by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

The ‘Queen’ actor tweeted thanking Home Minister Amit Shah. “This proves that a patriot’s voice cannot be crushed by. I am grateful to Amit Shah, if he wanted, he could have advised me to go to Mumbai after a few days, but he respected a daughter of India, protected her pride and self-respect. Jai Hind,” she tweeted in Hindi.

Ranaut is due in Mumbai on September 9 amid the ongoing tussle with Maharashtra government and Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut.

The Y category security in India consists of 11 security personnel, including commandos, to the protectee.

Reports said the decision on Ranaut had been taken because of a “renewed threat to the actor after she spoke about drug use among a section in the film industry following the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput”.

Ranaut (33) has faced sharp attacks from Maharashtra’s ruling Shiv Sena over her comment on the handling of the Sushant Rajput case. She is in the forefront of the ‘Justice for Sushant Singh Rajput’ campaign after the actor was found dead in his Mumbai apartment on June 14.

Ranaut, currently in her native Himachal Pradesh, had hit out at the Mumbai Police probe and had said under the current Sena-led government, she feared living in Mumbai. The comment led to a counter-attack from the Shiv Sena with its leaders saying she should stay away from Mumbai.

She has been targeting the film fraternity over alleged nepotism, bullying of newcomers and rivalries – which she believes had a role in Sushant Singh Rajput’s death. Last week she accused prominent actors of drug use and named a few in her post.

Meanwhile, the BJP on Sunday accused Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut of “defaming” Gujarat by calling Ahmedabad a “mini Pakistan” and demanded that he apologize to the people of Gujarat and Ahmedabad.

Sanjay Raut asked whether Ranaut had the courage to compare Ahmedabad to ‘mini Pakistan’ the way she equated Mumbai with Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

Sanjay Raut and Kangana Ranaut have been locked in a bitter war of words since the actor termed Mumbai unsafe after the death of Sushant Singh Rajput.

“If that girl apologises to Mumbai and Maharashtra for calling Mumbai a ‘mini Pakistan’, then I will think about it. Does she have the courage to say the same about Ahmedabad?” the Sena MP asked.

Offended by Raut’s remarks, Gujarat BJP spokesperson Bharat Pandya said the Sena leader insulted the state by calling Ahmedabad a “mini Pakistan”. “He should apologize to Gujarat, Ahmedabad and Amdavadis,” he said.
