J&K govt revokes Farooq Abdullah’s detention after seven months

Abdullah was in custody under the Public Safety Act (PSA) from August 5, 2019. He was kept under detention after the government ended special status to Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370.

The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Friday (March 13) revoked the detention of the former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah.

According to a government order, “In exercise of powers conferred under Section 19(1) of the Jammu and Kashmir Public Safety Act, 1978, the government hereby revokes the detention order bearing No. DMS/PSA/120/2019 issued by District Magistrate, Srinagar.”

Abdullah was in custody under the Public Safety Act (PSA) from August 5, 2019. He was kept under detention after the government ended special status to Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370.

A few days back, eight opposition parties sent a joint resolution to the BJP-led government, demanding the immediate release of all political detainees in Kashmir, especially the three former Chief Ministers — Farooq and Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti.
