India's COVID tally sprints past 47 lakh, 4th day of 94K cases

India’s COVID-19 caseload has gone past the 47 lakh-mark with the country recording more than 94,000 cases for the fourth consecutive day. According to data by health ministry, as many as 94,372 new infections were reported in the last 24 hours, taking the COVID tally to 47,54,356. The number of recoveries stood at 37,02,595 while the recovery rate was 77.88 per cent.

The death toll climbed to 78,586 with 1,114 people succumbing to the infection in a span of 24 hours.

The COVID-19 case fatality rate due to the coronavirus infection has further dropped to 1.65 per cent. There are 9,73,175 active cases of COVID-19 in the country which comprises 20.47 per cent of the total caseload.

The maximum number of cases in the last 24 hours was reported from Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh.

In view of the relapse of the infection in cured patients, the government has issued fresh rules for those recovering from the disease, asking them to look for early symptoms like “high-grade fever, breathlessness, unexplained chest pain, new onset of confusion, focal weakness.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, asked people to be alert and strictly maintain social distancing amid and other COVID protocols until a vaccine is found.

India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 30 lakh on August 23 and it went past 40 lakh on September 5. According to the ICMR, a cumulative total of 5,62,60,928 samples have been tested up to September  12 with 10,71,702 samples being tested on Saturday.
