With the latest being reported from Manipur, the first from the Northeast, the Union Health Ministry pegged the total number of cases in the country at 492 on Tuesday (March 24).
Gujarat and West Bengal reported two new cases each on Tuesday.
The 492 cases include at least 41 foreign nationals and the nine deaths reported so far, the Health Ministry said.
The total number of active COVID-19 cases across the country now stands at 446, after over 22 fresh cases were reported.
Thirty-six people have been cured/discharged/migrated, it added.
While the country on Monday (March 23) reported its ninth death due to the virus – a 57-year-old man from Kolkata, the number rose to 10 on Tuesday after a man in his sixties succumbed to the disease in a Mumbai hospital.
While Gujarat and Bihar had reported one death each on Sunday (March 22), four deaths each were reported from Karnataka, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, and Punjab earlier. Maharashtra has so far reported three deaths.
As cases of the viral infection surged in the past few days, authorities have put almost the entire country under lockdown, banning gathering of people and suspending road, rail and air traffic till March 31.
