IIT Bombay India's top varsity; IIT Delhi, IISc among top 200 in world ranking
Three Indian institutes have made it to the top 200 universities of the world in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Ranking 2021. According to the QS World University Ranking 2021, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay is at 172nd position, Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore is at the 185th spot, while IIT Delhi is at 193.
However, a number of other universities from the country have gone down in the world rankings list that was released on Wednesday (June 10). According to the rankings, IIT Bombay is now India’s highest ranked university among the top 200 global universities.
The world rankings of universities for 2021 are based on six major indicators namely, academic reputation, citations per faculty, employer reputation, faculty/student ratio, international faculty ratio as well as international student ratio.
Additionally, only eight Indian institutes have managed to feature in the top 500 of QS World University Ranking 2021. The rank-wise performance of institutes in the country has also declined. The list features IIT Madras in the 275th position, IIT Kharagpur in the 314th position, IIT Roorkee at 383rd, IIT Kanpur at 350th, and IIT Guwahati at 470th. The University of Delhi is now placed between rankings 501 and 510.

QS, the higher education consultancy, releases the world university ranking of the top 1,000 universities every year. This year, the Massachusetts Institute for Technology (MIT), USA is again at the number one spot for the ninth consecutive year.
Stanford University, Harvard University, and California Institute of Technology are at the second, third, and fourth rank respectively.
