IIT Bombay asks hostel residents not to participate in 'anti-national' activites

Amid rising anti-CAA protests across the country, IIT Bombay hostelites have been warned by the administration to not indulge in “anti-national activities” or to not “distribute posters or leaflets/pamphlets” on the campus.

According to the circular issued by the administration, any form of speech, plays, and music will not be permitted without the prior approval of the Dean of Student Affairs (DoSA). However, the circular does not say what qualifies as ‘anti-national activities’.

The emailed circular mentions 15 rules, which the students are expected to follow at all times. “Any activities that disturb the peace of hostel environment are strictly prohibited. Not allowed even if faculty is part of the gathering”, said one of the rules.

The circular also imposes restrictions on who visits the hostels, usage of vehicles in the campus by students who have been allotted the hostel etc. “Any violation of the above can lead to partial or permanent hostel suspension,” the email further says.

Earlier this month, students and teachers of IIT Bombay came out in large numbers voicing against the violent attacks in JNU by masked goons. Students, faculty members, staffers and hostel residents had also been assembling every evening since January 6 to form human chains and display posters, reports The Indian Express.
