House of student who raised pro-Pak slogan at Owaisi’s rally vandalised
Amulya Leona, who raised pro-Pakistan slogans in a Bengaluru rally on Thursday, faced fury of vandals who attacked her parents house in Karnataka’s Chikkamagaluru and smashed windows on Thursday night.
Amulya Leona, who raised pro-Pakistan slogans in a Bengaluru rally on Thursday (February 20), faced fury of vandals who attacked her parents house in Karnataka’s Chikkamagaluru and smashed windows on Thursday night, as per news agency ANI.
Amulya’s father, Oswald Naronha filed a police complaint at Koppa alleging some unidentified BJP activists were behind the vandalizing of his house.
“The activists vandalised our house by smashing window glass panes, flower pots and damaging other household things,” Naronha’s complaint alleges, as per a news agency.
Police personnel had been deployed at Naronha’s house at Koppa, which is about 320km west of Bengaluru.
Meanwhile, Amulya has been sent to 14-day judicial custody by a Karnataka court after being booked under the sedition law.
Reports say police registered a case under Section 124A (Offence of sedition) of the IPC, against the 19-year-old after arresting her from the protest site where she raised the controversial slogan in presence of AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi.
A video of the incident was widely circulated on social media, where Owaisi and other volunteers of the event rush to stop Amulya after she starts shouting ‘Pakistan Zindabad’.
She initially refuses to give up the microphone and later goes on to explain her slogan, which translates somewhat into, “The difference between Hindustan Zindabad and Pakistan Zindabad is…” before she is dragged away from the podium.
She was arrested soon after the event.
“We have filed a suo moto case against her under sections 124A (sedition), 15A and B (promoting enmity between different groups) and imputations, assertions prejudicial to national integration,” NDTV quoted senior police officer B Ramesh as saying.
While Owaisi has clarified that he or his party has no link with the girl, the Karnataka unit of BJP has targeted his party for spreading anti-India sentiments.
Connecting the incident to a recent one where AIMIM leader Waris Pathan said that the 15 crore Muslims in India will snatch away their Azadi from the 100 crore Hindus, the BJP said such protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act clearly prove that they are against the idea of India.
Taking the blame game a notch higher, Karnataka chief minister BS Yediyurappa on Friday (February 21) said Amulya should not be given bail and that she has contacts with naxals.
“Bail should not be given to Amulya, her father has also said he won’t protect her. It’s proved now that she had contacts with Naxals. Proper punishment should be given,” he told mediapersons.
He was alluding to a video of Amulya’s father where he was seen criticising her for her act. The video was shot by local Bajrang Dal activists at Koppa in Chickmagalur district where Amulya’s father lives.
“Let my daughter rot in a jail. Let the police break her legs. I have no objection. She has caused so much misery to my family,” the father had told Bajrang Dal activists who visited her house after the incident.
Meanwhile, residence of Amulya was vandalised by miscreants on late Thursday night. Police have begun investigation.
