The famous Amrik Sukhdev Dhaba at Haryana’s Murthal near the Delhi border served free food to the protesting farmers who braved tear gas and water cannons to reach the doors of the national capital demanding the scrapping of the Centre’s new farm laws.

A spokesperson told The Indian Express they did it as part of their religious beliefs, which is to serve humanity. He said in Sikhism, doing ‘sewa’ holds more importance than anything else; therefore, when they saw the farmers stranded, they decided to offer them food. The person said the dhaba will open its doors for them whenever such a need arises.

Besides the famous Murthal dhaba, Khalsa Aid too organised ‘langar sewa’ for farmers near the Shambhu (Delhi-Haryana) border.

The protesting farmers were on Friday allowed to enter Delhi and hold a peaceful demonstration and they were escorted to the Nirankari Ground at north Delhi’s Burari. But thousands of them stayed put at the Singhu and Tikri borders, refusing to move to the designated ground.

Meanwhile, around 600 farmers have gathered at the Nirankari ground where Bangla Sahib Gurdwara has set up a ‘langar’ to feed the farmers. Besides, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has also made provisions for food in the designated area.
