Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp users in Europe, US face outage

Social media giant Facebook and its subsidiaries Instagram and WhatsApp went down in Europe and some other parts of the world since afternoon. Not many users in India have complained of downtime so far.

Social media giant Facebook and its subsidiaries Instagram and WhatsApp went down in Europe and some other parts of the world in the afternoon. Not many users in India have complained of downtime so far.

Besides, several users of Twitter too have reported downtime. Some outage tracking platforms too have noted spikes. Facebook has not made an official statement on the complaints so far.

The problem seems largely restricted to users in Europe with some users in the US reporting interruption while using Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp on their devices. Downtime tracking site DownDetector shows that the problems are largely reported in most parts of Europe, where it has found thousands of complaints so far.

Not many social media users in India have downtime so far.

The outage started around 3.15pm IST and has expanded since then.

Some users on Facebook Messenger too complained of connectivity problems. A good number of Instagram users complained they weren’t able to access feed and even direct messages.

The Live Outage Map on the DownDetector site provided data to prove the downtime started from Europe, particularly the UK, and then spread to other parts of the world, including the US, Middle East, and Japan.
