Rajya Sabha MP and former Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh on Saturday (August 1) passed away at a hospital in Singapore. He was 64.

Media reports said Singh had been at the ICU with his family by his side during his final moments.

Singh had been undergoing treatment at the Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore for the past seven months.

He had been sick for quite some time, and had gotten a kidney transplant earlier. The Rajya Sabha MP had reportedly suffered kidney failure in 2013.

The former Samajwadi Party leader appeared to be very active on social media despite his illness.

Earlier in the day, he had taken to Twitter to give a tribute to freedom fighter Bal Gangadhar Tilak on his death anniversary.

He had also wished Eid-Al-Adha to his followers.

Furthermore, on March 2, he had put out a video message in response to rumours that claimed he was dead. He had posted the video with the caption, “Tiger Zinda Hai.”

Amar Singh was once considered SP chief Mulayam Singh’s close confidante. However, he resigned from all posts in the party on January 6, 2010 and was later expelled from the SP.
