Eighty-four personnel deployed in TN Raj Bhavan test positive for COVID-19

Eighty-four security and fire services personnel deployed in Raj Bhavan have tested positive
for COVID-19 but none of them came into contact with Governor Banwarilal Purohit or senior officials, the government said on Thursday (July 23).

A few men posted at Raj Bhavan showed symptoms, testing was done for 147 personnel and 84 of them, comprising security and fire service staffers, were found positive for coronavirus.

“All these persons were further investigated and now have been quarantined by the health department. All these persons were working near the main gate of Raj Bhavan and not in the main building,” the release said, adding none of them came into contact with governor Purohit or any of the senior senior officials.

“As a precautionary measure, the whole area of Raj Bhavan including offices have been disinfected and sanitised by Corporation health authorities. Raj Bhavan is closely monitoring the situation,” the statement.

Earlier in May, Raj Bhavan had categorically stated that none of their staff on campus had been infected by coronavirus as claimed by several news channels. They stated that the affected person was  transferred to T.Nagar fire and rescue services division on April 14.

Tamil Nadu on Wednesday reported 5,849 new Covid-19 cases, the highest single-day figure yet taking the toll to 1,86,492. With 522 deaths recorded in the past 24 hours, including 444 deaths notified by Greater Chennai Corporation under COVID deaths, the toll reached 3144.
