Delhi gunman, who opened fire at police, arrested

A day after a man open fired during the clash in Delhi, the police have identified and arrested the accused on Tuesday (February 25).

A day after a man open fired during the clash in Delhi, the police have identified and arrested the accused on Tuesday (February 25).

The gunman identified as Shahrukh, 33, open fired Delhi police constable in the riots that erupted in the national capital against anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). Shahrukh is a resident of Delhi’s Shahdara.

Tension prevailed in Jaffrabad area, the accused, wearing a red shirt, was caught on camera pointing a gun at a police constable and then began firing rounds near his head.

According to reports, police have formally detained the Shahrukh and legal process to register a First Information Report (FIR) against the attacker was underway.

A head constable was among seven people killed and at least 50 others, including several paramilitary and Delhi Police personnel, were injured as violence spiralled over the amended citizenship law in northeast Delhi on Monday.

As he fires, protesters on the other side of the road can be seen scattering in fear. Several Muslim anti-CAA rioters went on a rampage after a clash broke out between pro-CAA and Anti-CAA groups in Maujpur near Jeffrabad.
