Unnao rape survivor critical, on life support system in AIIMS, say sources

The Unnao rape survivor admitted to the AIIMS Trauma Centre in Delhi remains critical and is on life support system, sources at the hospital said on Tuesday (August 6). The victim’s lawyer, who was also critically injured, was admitted to the Trauma Centre on Tuesday. The victim has been kept in the ICU.

Monsoon flood fury follows drought in north Karnataka

After witnessing a severe drought condition until the last month, northern Karnataka is now suffering from the monsoon flood fury. With an increase in water inflow from Maharashtra, to 3.01 lakh cusecs (cubic feet per second) on Monday (August 5), the situation remained grim as the water released from the reservoirs in the Krishna river basin inundated several villages, bridges and farmlands.

Ayodhya case: Hindu party seeks control of entire 2.77 acre disputed land

Muslims have not been allowed to enter the disputed Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid structure in Ayodhya since 1934, a Hindu group told the Supreme Court on Tuesday (August 6) and sought the control and management of the entire 2.77 acre land which is under dispute. Nirmohi Akhara, one of the parties to the case, said that while advancing the arguments that the structure has been in its exclusive possession.

Amit Shah lying, says Farooq Abdullah on row over his house arrest

National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah asserted on Tuesday (August 6) that he was put under house arrest and in an emotional outburst asked if the government, after dividing Jammu and Kashmir, “will divide hearts too”. In his first remarks since the government on Monday (August 5) revoked provisions of Article 370 to take away state’s special status of Jammu and Kashmir, Abdullah said that a “dictatorial” authority has been invoked and not a “democratic” one.

Plea in Supreme Court challenging Presidential order on Article 370

A petition was filed in the Supreme Court on Tuesday (August 6) challenging the Presidential order on Article 370 which revokes the special status given to Jammu and Kashmir. The plea has been filed by advocate ML Sharma who claimed that the Presidential order was “illegal” as it was passed without taking consent from the state Assembly.

Scindia, Congress leaders support govt on Article 370, embarrass party

A number of Congress leaders, including Jyotiraditya Scindia and Janadan Dwivedi, have gone against the party’s stand in Parliament on abrogation of the provisions of Article 370 of the Constitution in Jammu and Kashmir by supporting the Centres move and a bill to bifurcate the state. The Congress has strongly opposed the move and the bill to bifurcate the state of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union territories.

Six killed in massive fire in Delhi’s Okhla area

Six people were killed and 10 injured in a massive fire at Zakir Nagar in the Okhla area here in the early hours of Tuesday (August 6), fire officials said. The call about the fire in a four-storey building was received at 2:32 a.m. after which eight fire tenders were rushed to the spot, they said.
