Jet Airways’ pilots defer strike plan
The Jet Airways’ pilots body, National Aviator’s Guild (NAG), have deferred its strike plan as the airline management is set to meet the State bank of India on Monday. Reports said there could be some cash infusion by the consortium of banks led by the SBI to save the struggling airline.
How the elections overshadowed Ambedkar Jayanthi celebrations
With the ongoing general election, there are restrictions all over the country to celebrate Dr Ambedkar’s Jayanthi. This has created ripples among the Ambedkarites and the people who value the constitution. They believe that citing the elections as a reason is superficial and that the restrictions show the society and the governments have a restricted view over Ambedkar. In Tamil Nadu, Ambedkarites say that the state government has completely restricted all the functions related to Ambedkar Jayanthi. But the neighbouring union territory, Puducherry, has given permission to hold the celebrations.
Woman from naxal-hit Chhattisgarh gets 12th rank in UPSC
25-year-old Namrata Jain from Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada district, one of the worst-hit Naxal regions in the country, has got the 12th rank in the civil services exam, the result of which was declared recently by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). Jain who got the 99th Rank in 2016, attempted the UPSC again this year, to be able to get a better rank and apply for the role of an Indian Administrative Service (IAS).
CSK defeat KKR by five wickets in IPL
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) defeated Kolkatta Knight Riders (KKR) by five-wickets in Sunday’s (April 14) match. Chasing 162, CSK was off to a good start, but some wickets tumbled in the middle overs. Opener Faf DuPlesis scored a quick 24 off 16 balls. While Shane Watson got out for a meagre 6 runs. Suresh Raina join DuPlesis and went on to score a half-century. Skipper MS Dhoni too got out for 16 runs. Raina and Ravindra Jadeja’s partnership made 41-runs for the sixth-wicket to lead CSK into their seventh victory this season in IPL. CSK is at the top of the IPL table with 14 points from eight games.
Karnataka voting body ambassador Cricketer Rahul Dravid can’t vote on April 18
Cricketer Rahul Dravid who is Karnataka’s election body’s ambassador cannot vote in Lok Sabha elections due to a discrepancy. His name has been deleted from the voters’ list. A NDTV report said that the cricketer did not submit the application for transfer of constituency before the deadline. Dravid, who moved from his residence in Indira Nagar in Bengaluru Central constituency, has not registered to vote from the North constituency, where he currently resides. Hence, ironically, the ambassador who urged people to cast their vote, will not be able to vote himself.
