Court allows Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad to visit Delhi

A Delhi court on Tuesday (January 21) modified the bail conditions of Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad, an accused in the Daryaganj violence case, and allowed him to visit Delhi. However, he will have to inform the DCP (Crime) before visiting the national capital.

Delhi’s Tis Hazari Court modified the bail condition of the Dalit leader and told him to reside at a given address whenever he visits Delhi. Besides, he will also have to inform the DCP telephonically and send an email if he is not in Delhi or Saharanpur, the court said.

Azad was arrested on December 21 on charges of inciting violence during an anti-Citizenship Amendment Act protest in Delhi’s Daryaganj. He was granted bail on January 15 on the condition he would not visit Delhi for four weeks.

The court had also directed him not to hold any dharna in the national capital till the assembly elections. He was also asked to stay at his permanent residence in Saharanpur for a month and mark his attendance with the SHO every Saturday.

Following his release on January 16, he visited the iconic Jama Masjid, which has been one of the hotbeds of anti-CAA protests in the national capital. It may be noted the court had given him 24 hours’ time to go anywhere before leaving Delhi.
