Comic Bharti, husband, arrested in drugs case sent to judicial custody till Dec 4
A Mumbai court on Sunday (November 22) sent comic Bharti Singh and her husband Haarsh Limbachiyaa to judicial custody till December 4, a day after ganja was seized from their house.
While Bharti was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Saturday (November 21), Haarsh, a screenwriter, producer and anchor was taken into custody on Sunday after 15 hours of questioning.
The anti-drugs agency had seized “a small quantity of cannabis” (86.5 grams) from Bharti and Haarsh’s house in Andheri during a raid on Saturday.
Even though the seized quantity is not commercial, it can invite jail term up to 10 years.
The NCB said both had accepted consuming the drug, during questioning.
“Both Ms Bharti Singh and her husband Haarsh Limbachiya accepted consumption of ganja,” the NCB said in a statement.
The two have been arrested under provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotrophic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The arrests are part of the NCB’s efforts to zero in on an alleged drug cartel in Bollywood, leads of whose presence emerged through Whatsapp chats during probe into the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput in June.
