Attacking the Yogi Adityanath government over the Hathras gang-rape case, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday (October 11) said the fact that the woman, a Dalit was invisible or “no one” in front of the government was evident from the statement of the chief minister and the police who have asserted that there has been no rape.

“The CM & his police say no one was raped because for them, and many other Indians, she was NO ONE,” the former Congress chief tweeted.

He also tagged a media report which asked why police was denying rape when the woman repeatedly reported rape.

The 19-year-old woman raped allegedly by four upper-caste men in her village in Hathras, succumbed to her injuries in a Delhi hospital, two weeks after the incident. Her death and a hushed up cremation by the police created a huge public uproar.

The state government recently told the Supreme Court that the cremation was conducted in the dead of the night to prevent law and order situation the next morning.

The state government has said that some people were trying to foment caste tensions in the aftermath of the incident. Quoting an FSL (forensic science laboratory) report, it has denied the rape charge. The Centre has issued a notification for the CBI to take over probe into the alleged gang-rape and death of the 19-year-old woman, officials said on Saturday.
