Two days earlier than the anticipated date, the Central Board of Secondary Education has announced its 2020 exam results for class 12 on Monday (July 13). The results were released on their official website, cbseresults.nic.in.

The exams were disrupted in March due to nationwide shutdown in response to the COVID pandemic. As the situation was not conducive to conduct exams for the remaining papers, on June 26, CBSE told the Supreme Court that it was cancelling all remaining exams and will announce results by July 15. An alternative formula was devised to calculate the marks of papers that could not be conducted, which included assessing on basis of marks scored by a student in his or her best performing subjects, project and practical marks.

A total 88.78 per cent students have passed this year. The pass percentage has increased by 5.38 per cent from last year when 83.40 per cent students passed.

The results released showed that the percentage of students scoring more than 95% had doubled to 3.24 per cent from 1.47 per cent last year. Similarly, the number of candidates scoring over 90% also went up from 7.82% in 2019 to 13.24% in 2020.

Girls outshone boys in the class 12 examination results. Girls outperformed boys by 5.96 per cent whereas the overall pass percentage increased by 5.38 per cent as against last year.

The Trivandrum region recorded the highest pass percentage at 97.67 whereas the lowest pass percentage was recorded at 74.57 in the Patna region.

The board decided not to come up with a merit list in view of exceptional circumstances amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Additionally, the results of 400 students could not be computed as per the scheme and will be announced later, a senior board official said.

Education Minister Ramesh Nishank Pokhriyal tweeted his congratulations to students on passing the CBSE board exams.
