Chidambaram back to Tihar after check-up at AIIMS for stomach pain

Jailed Congress leader P Chidambaram was on Saturday (October 5) referred to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) following complaints of stomach, said media reports.

Jailed Congress leader P Chidambaram was on Saturday (October 5) was taken to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) following complaints of stomach pain, said media reports.

At AIIMS, the senior leader underwent a medical check-up, following which, he was taken back to the jail, reported news agency ANI. He has been lodged in Delhi’s Tihar Jail since September 5 after he was arrested by the CBI in an alleged corruption case.

The 74-year-leader had on Thursday moved the Supreme Court, seeking bail in the INX Media case. Earlier, the Delhi high court had rejected a bail plea of the veteran leader.

A special court had on the same day extended his judicial custody till October 17 and said that he should be taken to hospital if he requests so. It had also allowed him to get home-cooked meal in jail.

The veteran Congress leader was arrested by the CBI over allegations of irregularities in the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance given to INX Media to the tune of ₹305 crore in 2007, when Chidambaram was the union finance minister.
