Hyderabad MP and president of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) Asaduddin Owaisi on Thursday (January 16) hit out at Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) Bipin Rawat for his proposal to introduce counter-radicalisation camps in Kashmir to save the youth from religious radicalisation.

Owaisi who expressed his displeasure at Rawat’s statement through a series of tweets, said making strategies was the work of the administration and not of a “general”.

“This is not his (Bipin Rawat) first ridiculous statement. The policy is decided by the civil administration, not a general. By talking about policy or politics, Bipin Rawat is reducing civilian supremacy,” he tweeted.

During a programme on Thursday, Rawat while taking a dig at Pakistan for sponsoring terrorism said that India should follow a strategy much alike the US’ global war on terrorism post 9/11.

“As long as there are countries promoting terrorism, we have to keep facing this threat. We have to deal with it decisively,” Rawat said.

Emphasising the need to deal with radicalisation of children and youth in the Valley, he said,  “One should identify such people by running a campaign and action should be taken on them. In Kashmir, boys and girls below 10 years have been radicalised. We can separate them from such a campaign. Peace talks should be started with everyone, but on the condition that they give up terrorism altogether.”
