In a series of episodes involving Sushant Singh Rajput’s death, the CBI on Saturday (September 5) took a three-member team of doctors from Delhi’s AIIMS to the actor’s Mumbai home for forensic examination, officials said.

On Friday (September 4), the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) arrested Showik Chakraborty and Samuel Miranda in connection with the drugs probe linked to actor Rajput’s death, officials said.

Showik Chakraborty, brother of main accused Rhea Chakraborty, and Rajput’s house manager Samuel Miranda have been placed under arrest under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Both Showik and Miranda have been named as accused by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the CBI in the FIRs registered by them in Rajput’s death case.

Meanwhile, the two suspected drug peddlers who were arrested in connection with the drugs probe, on Saturday filed a bail application in a Mumbai court.

The duo, Zaid Vilatra and Abdel Basit Parihar are currently in NCB custody. Challenging their NCB remand, their lawyer Tarrak Sayyed applied for bail.

The NCB had earlier told the court that the two accused in their statements have named several persons and their custody was essential to unearth the main player in the drug syndicate.

Last month, the central probe agency sought assistance from the AIIMS in the case. “Our priority will be to examine the case with all the possible manners of death,” Dr Sudhir Gupta, Head of Forensic Medicines, AIIMS, had said.

Several probe agencies — the CBI, Enforcement Directorate, Narcotics Control Bureau — are investigating the case, which has triggered a debate on mental health issues.

The talented actor was found dead at his Bandra home on June 14. The Mumbai police, at that time, had said he had died by suicide.

His family in Bihar in July accused his friend Rhea Chakraborty of mentally harassing him and driving him to suicide. The CBI took over the investigation into the death last month after the Supreme Court asked the Mumbai Police to hand over all evidence it has collected to the agency.

“A fair, competent and impartial probe is the need of the hour to stop speculation,” the top court had said.

The NCB has arrested seven people so far in the case, including Showik Chakraborty and Samuel Miranda.

The lawyer of Sushant Singh Rajput’s family said on Saturday that Mumbai Police were hiding “something very big” after the NCB arrested Rhea Chakraborty’s brother Showik and Miranda.

“The arrests prove the fear of the family that there was something very big that Mumbai Police wanted to hide. Clearly, there are several angles in this case. The family hopes that more angles will come out,” Vikas Singh was quoted as saying.
