CAA agitation: Sec 144 imposed in New Delhi's Mandi House area

Ahead of a protest planned against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) from Jantar Mantar to Mandi House, Section 144 was imposed in Northeast Delhi, Red Fort area and Mandi House on Tuesday (December 24).
Police forces have been deployed in Mandi House area, it was reported.
Students from various universities across Delhi joined a march from Mandi House to Jantar Mantar against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). Slogans of Halla Bol and Chhatra Ekta Zindabad resonated through the air as they commenced their march. Students from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Jamia Millia Islamia and Delhi University took part in the march.
Prohibitory orders notwithstanding West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is scheduled to continue her protest march against the CAA for the fifth day on Tuesday. While she would lead the march from Bidhan Sarani in north Kolkata to Gandhi Bhawan in Beleghata, former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will lead a pro-CAA rally in West Bengal’s Siliguri.

With the CAA having become controversial, both the Union government and the opposition parties are taking out rallies in support of and in opposition to the contentious legislation.
CAA aims to provide citizenship to religiously persecuted non-Muslim minorities from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.
