Brothers, sisters please maintain peace: Modi's appeal to Delhiites amid riots

Choosing to break his silence over the bloody riots in northeast Delhi that have left 20 people dead and 180 injured, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday (February 26) made an appeal to residents to maintain peace and brotherhood to restore calm and normalcy in the capital.

Choosing to break his silence over the bloody riots in northeast Delhi that have left 20 people dead and 180 injured, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday (February 26) made an appeal to residents to maintain peace and brotherhood to restore calm and normalcy in the capital.

In another tweet the prime minister informed that he has already review the current situation in various parts of Delhi and that police and other agencies are working on the ground to ensure peace and normalcy.

“Had an extensive review on the situation prevailing in various parts of Delhi. Police and other agencies are working on the ground to ensure peace and normalcy,” he tweeted.

“Peace and harmony are central to our ethos. I appeal to my sisters and brothers of Delhi to maintain peace and brotherhood at all times. It is important that there is calm and normalcy is restored at the earliest,” he said in another tweet.

Earlier, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal wrote to Home Minister Amit Shah stressing the need for the deployment of Army to contain the violence in the city.

“I have been in touch wid large no of people whole nite. Situation alarming. Police, despite all its efforts, unable to control situation and instil confidence. Army shud be called in and curfew imposed in rest of affected areas immediately. Am writing to Hon’ble HM to this effect,” he tweeted.
