Amid countrywide protests and opposition against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, the BJP is slated to launch a campaign to generate awareness on the new law among the masses on Sunday (January 5).

While Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has already launched the door-to-door awareness campaign from Jaipur, the BJP in a tweet on Sunday morning posted that Home Minister Amit Shah will flag off the campaign from Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar. BJP working president JP Nadda will start the campaign from Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh while Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will begin it at LDA colony.

The 10-day campaign will conclude on January 15. The party will take out 500 rallies across the country to reach out to almost 3 crore people.

The BJP has also launched a toll-free number (8866288662) for people to register the support for the law.

The sensitisation programme, comes two day after Shah announced that the BJP won’t revoke its decision to implement CAA across the country, even if all opposition parties unite.

The Act seeks to grant Indian citizenship to persecuted immigrants from six non-Muslim communities of Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh who entered India on or before December 31, 2014.
